Methodology
The Kenedy Ranch is a massive property, encompassing 825,000 acres. The soils consisted of poorly graded sands from surface to approximately 18′ below ground, making it ideal for using sock tile. Utilizing the one-pass trencher, MERSINO installed approximately 300’ of sock tile at each turbine pad location, as well as provided the vacuum pumps for each pad. MERSINO installed sock tile at 35 pads for the project. Each pad consisted of 300’ of sock tile, one vacuum pump, and 300’ of discharge hose. Overall, 10,500′ of 5″ sock tile was installed.
Challenges
Although installing sock tile in poorly graded sands is typically a quick process, the size of the site made the process a little more challenging. A lowboy trailer was used to move the trencher from one pad to another, since the pads were over a few hundred feet away from each other. Although the process was a little more time consuming, the project was successfully completed.
