Green River Wind Farm

Based on a recommendation from prior customer Walnut Ridge Wind Farm, Mersino was contacted by Green River Wind Farm in Walnut, Illinois for dewatering services. Our performance and customer service from past jobs set us apart from the competition and we won the job.

Methodology
Using our jet rig and trencher, our crews created a football-shaped vacuum dewatering system surrounding the perimeter of Green River’s proposed excavation area. We utilized our standard practice for wind farm turbine pad installations, which included the one-pass trenching method and manually installing 6,800′ of wellpoints (400′ per turbine pad). Not every turbine pad required sock and wellpoints, as this was field determined. The installation methods and equipment chosen allowed us to manage the sandy soil conditions while installing at a pace desired by the customer.

Throughout the project, a variety of equipment was used including rotary and centrifugal wellpoint pumps, trash diaphragm and trash vacuum pumps and the one-pass trencher.

Challenges
Weather restrictions were the only obstacle on this project. The site had over 30″ of rainfall over a 30 day span. The rain saturated the ground, which does not allow the trencher to be used as often as it will get stuck in the muck. In these cases, we have been able to use wellpoints instead. The project was both on time and on budget. Project Contact:
