2019 Fall Flood Deployment

MERSINO provided a temporary bypass pumping system at multiple locations, as determined by the City of Omaha Sewer Department, along the Missouri River Levee system in Omaha, Nebraska. Each pump was provided with approximately 50 feet of suction pipe and 200 feet of discharge pipe.

Methodology
A total of 17 pumps were set on the Missouri River Levee because the river was so high. They had to close all of the city’s floodgates. When it did rain, the rainwater that normally flows into the river had no place to go.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in South Dakota and North Dakota are predicting high river levels all winter, going into spring. Next year there are high probabilities that the flooding will happen again, so we’re currently talking with the City to have a plan in place for when that happens.

Challenges
When it rained, it rained a lot and the rainwater that normally flows into the river had no place to go. So when rain was in the forecast, we had to perform pump watch and make sure the dip tubes weren’t clogging with trash, due to street runoff pollution.
